A symbol of the culture and civilization of Salento, Le Stanzie is one of the most representative farm structures (masserie) of sixteenth century in Salento. Placed among rolling hills that surround the landscape of Supersano, this old farmhouse in the past has been a point of reference for having a rest for travelers and pilgrims who during the long and laborious journeys stopped in this place to refresh themselves, to have a hot meal and a well deserved rest before resuming the journey.
Le Stanzie takes its name from an ancient Roman Statius, since it is located at the center of important crossroads between the “antique way of oil” that linked the ports of Otranto and Gallipoli and the “way of the pilgrims”, the route used by every Christian who went on pilgrimage from San Michele Gargano to Santa Maria di Leuca. There are several restaurants where I always want to come back, and the Restaurant Il Mulino di Alcantara is one of them. I even celebrated my wedding here, so you can imagine how much I like it 🙂 The restaurant is situated in the beautiful square Piazza Caduti in the old town of Felline. It has two storeys and in summer it occupies the square itself, there is also a small terrace upstairs, for those who want more private/intimate atmosphere (especially in the evening with the candlelight). This was the first time I went to this restaurant, even if I heard a lot about it from my Italian friends, but also in tripadvisor it has a number of positive reviews. So I became curious of it:) It is located in historic centre of Otranto, very near to Aragonese castle. Approaching the restaurant you can see the menu outside (which is very common tradition in Italy, as in this way you can see the list of the meals and the prices), which also gives you an opportunity to see that the meals are quite different here from the typical meals of other restaurants. The restaurant is not big, it has small terrace upstairs, small and cozy space outside and not so bigger one inside, with refined atmosphere and totally white interior. You will be met by Alessandro (who speaks English), who will answer all your questions about menu and I guess about anything else:) we received two glasses of complementary sparkling rose wine and a treat from chef, Cristina Conte. What you notice immediately in this place is the high level of service and of the presentation of every meal, the menu is very innovative and modern.
